Modified NSG Splatmaster Internals

splatmaster-rebuild-parts

Last weekend I was talking with Don ”Bored383” Howard about his aluminum internal splatmaster. We were discussing whether it was an easy project to drop some nelson internals in for a splatty for a much needed velocity boost.

Left side are the stock splatmaster internals.
Right side is a WGP steel commando powertube dropped in.

Had to drill out the splatmaster valve retaining screw (not standard nelson specs on threads or ID) and will have to shave down the stop ring and shorten the commando tube a little. Will need to drop in a lighter spring as well.

Compared to the stock splatmaster powertube it should give a good fps improvement. Although Don did say his standard internal splatmaster was getting better fps.

Has anyone else performed this mod themselves?

  1. Hi Dan,

I’ve not seen anyone do custom powertube work on Splatty’s. The majority of the mods seem to be about replacing everything but that.

You’ve probably seen these already, but here are the main ones I’ve seen.

CJOttawa explored putting a Phantom pierce pin in a splatty here:
    http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/ask-experts/109285-splatmaster-serviceable-pierce-pin.html

Kidney Thief was upgrading internals as was KPCS:

    http://www.mcarterbrown.com/forums/kidney-machine/69378-splatmaster-kits.html

RussC popped open the valve, but never got around to talking what he did with it:

I’d love to see an update to this post and what results you achieved. Cheers.

    • Hi Jason,
Although I haven’t seen one of Kidney Thief’s or KPCS’s broken down I can’t imagine the valve work I was trying to do is much different. I think they both just added in a powertube with a nelson valve retaining screw into the valve body to achieve a higher flow. They likely made their own valve bodies as well but still not too different.
I was mainly trying to work with stock parts and use an odd powertube (shorter than standard in a few dimensions) that I had a ton of. Unfortunately I ended up loosing my splatmaster bolt so I never finished the project. I think it would work but the toughest part is drilling the hole perpendicular through the shaft of the powertube. Maybe I can revisit it this week. I would love to find a simple solution using nelson parts for an easier splatmaster rebuild.
If I did start this up again I would look for an alternative to the pin through the powertube. Maybe one threaded end on the tube and a but to retain the bolt in place?
      Thanks for the comment Jason!
      -Dan
